NETWORK SOLUTIONS LAUNCHES 100-YEAR REGISTRATIONS

Have a tough time remembering to pay those registration fees every few
years? Network Solutions would be happy to help: with their new 100-year
registration, you pay $999 up-front, and Network Solutions will renew
your domain well into the 22nd century. After all, who wants to rely
on their grandkids to keep track of those valuable domain assets?
The 100-year registration comes at a whopping discount (by NetSol standards,
at least)-- only $9.99 per year compared to $34.99 for NetSol's 1-year
registration. The catch? The domain can't be moved away from Network
Solutions without losing the registration credits. The company does
not mention what happens to those registration credits in the event
that the existing domain name system, or NetSol themselves, ceases to exist.
Not to be outdone, several small OpenSRS registrars quickly parried
NetSol's announcement with the launching of a 1-billion year registration
for only $100 million (99% less than NetSol on a yearly basis!), or the
ultimate: a perpetual registration of your domain for one low payment of
only $110 million.
